When I first heard about selling digital art templates online, I thought, “Sounds cool but I don’t have a website, and I’m not great with tech.”

But here’s what I found out: you don’t need a site.

You don’t need a shop with a million listings. And you definitely don’t need to be a pro marketer.

All I needed was one decent product and Payhip.

In this post, I’ll walk you through how I turned my design files, stuff I already made for myself into digital products that now bring in passive sales every single week. And no, I didn’t run a single ad or hire a developer. Let’s break it down.


Step 1: Pick What You’re Gonna Sell

I started with a Procreate brush pack. Just stuff I made for personal doodles. But then I realized people on Instagram were asking for the texture I used. So I packaged up the brushes, cleaned them up a bit, added a short usage guide, and boom—my first product.

If you’re not sure what to create, here are a few ideas:

  • Procreate brushes

  • Instagram post templates (use Canva)

  • Printable coloring sheets

  • Photoshop logo kits

  • Sticker sheets for digital planners

Start with what you already use. If it helps you, it’ll probably help someone else.


Step 2: Make It Easy for People to Use

One mistake I made early on? I uploaded a messy PSD file with unlabeled layers. Got three refund requests in one week. Ouch.

Now I always:

  • Group and label all layers (if it’s a design file)

  • Include a “Start Here” PDF that explains how to use it

  • Add both editable and flat versions (PNG + PSD or Canva link)

Your customer might be a total beginner, so make it plug-and-play. That alone will reduce refund requests and increase reviews.


Step 3: Set Up Your Product on Payhip (Seriously, It’s Free)

This part is super chill. No coding. Just drag, drop, and describe.

Here’s how I do it:

  1. Sign into Payhip and click “Add Product.”

  2. Choose “Digital Product.”

  3. Upload your files (I use ZIP if there are multiple elements).

  4. Write a title that’s keyword-friendly: e.g., “Boho Instagram Templates for Canva.”

  5. Write a benefit-focused description. Talk less about what it is and more about what it does.

  6. Add 2–3 mockups made in Canva.

  7. Set your price. I usually start between $7–$15.

And that’s it. You now have a live product page with a built-in checkout.


Step 4: Promote Without Burning Out

I get it. The idea of “promoting your work” feels awkward. But it doesn’t have to be.

Here’s what’s worked for me—without spending a dime:

  • Pinterest: I made pins in Canva and linked them to my Payhip product page. After 3 weeks, one pin brought in 80 clicks and 4 sales.

  • TikTok/IG Reels: I filmed 10-second clips showing my brush pack in use. No voiceover. Just music and process.

  • Link in bio: I use my Payhip store link on Instagram and Beacons.

If you already sell on Etsy, try offering a “Payhip-only” bundle or bonus to encourage people to switch.


Step 5: Grow With Bundles, Launches, and Repeat Buyers

My second product was a seasonal pack—“Winter Watercolor Canva Templates.” I bundled it with the original pack, offered a 20% discount for past buyers, and promoted it through my email list. Result? More sales from the same audience.

Other things to try:

  • Offer bundles (e.g., spring + summer templates)

  • Create limited-time themed packs (e.g., holiday clipart or Valentine’s cards)

  • Add a subscriber-only freebie to build a mailing list

Keep it light. Keep it fun. You don’t need a huge catalog. Just a few good products with a personal touch.
